As the stent approaches the targeted bifurcation, the operator torques the catheter to align the stent's central opening and the undeployed side branch support structure with the side branch ostium. Final positioning and stabilization of the system is achieved by advancing the side branch stabilizing wire (SSW) into the side branch and then advancing the stent along the main wire and side wire to guide it into position. An advanced stent design permits the stent to be deployed using a single balloon without an additional side branch balloon—the side branch support structure is automatically deployed as the main body of the stent expands.
